i have a small theory, in every map (except shadows i think) we had a specialist weapon, the giant, the annihalator, der eisendrache, the gravity spikes, i think this map will have the hive gun (bug) and i think those glowing things on the trees will be like pods that have a chance of giving u the bugs (a piece) of the gun

Maybe the red lights above the buildings are the ones from Nacht der Untoten. The ones that are in the sky near the starting room stairs. This links In with the plane. Also, the buildings appears to look like nacht der untoten, layout is the same but windows are borded up + there is a gate there, looks exactly like Nacht. Like so this gets top comment.

I would say that Samantha's drawing looks more like the forest loading screen or the forest that you see the character you played as last sitting in while eating around a fire. I also think that the forest MUST have something to do with the storyline.
To me the plane that is thought to be a ww2 bomber may actually be a ww2 japanese zero fighter planes from what looks like a signal forward engine. Also it looks to be getting shot down and perhaps even the zero is being piloted by the original Takeo which we must recover from the wreckage somewhere on the island.

If you look at the wolf bow painting there are three lightning bolts around the castle and if you look at the island map picture there are 3 bolts striking the same spots around the mountain
